Frequently Asked Questions:

Do you do kids shows?

This is something he gets asked a lot and the short answer is no. Finbarr's performances are more geared toward late teenagers and adults, however Finbarr does perform at many events where there are families with young kids present and of course a magician can always find something to entertain both adults and kids.

But if you're having a childrens party with kids of a younger age, then you really do require a kids entertainer to keep their attention.

What can I expect for my money?

The short answer would be great entertainment and happy guests, we know that planning a big event can be a stressful experience so when you hire Finbarr you can add peace of mind to the package also.

Do you use tacky props and that kind of thing?

No! Finbarr's magic is primarily based on sleight of hand and mentalism (psychological magic). While that cheesy era of magic still exists (sorry guys), it is certainly not the type of magic Finbarr performs. In fact, no props are needed as Finbarr's magic often uses items belonging to his spectators (rings, phones, money, hands, watches, even their own minds, all of which are given back at least 70% percent of the time.... In working order). Ahem.

But fear not, if your audience doesn't have ANY of those items, Finbarr can still perform magic for them.

How do I know if Finbarr is the right performer for my event?

If your event seeks a top class close up magician, then chances are that Finbarr is the right performer for your event. Simple!

How did you do that? I mean seriously, HOW did you do that!?!

Magic.

Why should I choose Finbarr and not somebody
else?

We'll be honest, there are a lot of magicians in Ireland, but only a handful that we would personally recommend. It's all to easy to set up a website and call yourself a "professional" in any trade and that especially includes magic. A well made website can often mislead someone who is hiring a magician for the first time and then cause embarrassment for you and your guests on your big day.

Finbarr has spent years perfecting his art, not to make money (well ok....not JUST to make money) but because he genuinely loves what he does. This is something that really comes across in his performances. Plus he has years of experience dealing with many different types of audiences so you know that whatever your event, both you and your guests are in good hands.

And finally, Finbarr believes in giving his clients a fair price for their event.

Do you use offensive language in your performances?

Never. Finbarr's performance style is to charm the audience, dazzle them with magic and to make them laugh. Not to offend them.

I've never hired a magician, do I need to provide anything for when you arrive?

Nothing at all. All Finbarr needs is a reasonably sober audience and he can take care of the rest.

It says in your About section that Finbarr is also a hypnotist, will he make my friend act like a chicken or fall in love with a sweepi
ng brush?

While Finbarr does mix in hypnotic techniques in his performances, he does not use full on hypnotic trances in his performances for a number of reasons, one of those reasons being time. He would not get through a quarter of your guests if he were to hypnotize someone at every table.

However as you may have read in the News section on the About page, Finbarr has put together a stage show which is based mostly around mentalism (psychological/mind magic) and he has stated interest in including routines based on his hypnotic techniques so watch this space!

Have you any advice or tips on hiring a magician?

Why it just so happens that we do....These are tips on hiring any magician and you could save yourself a lot of hassle by following these simple tips.
  • If you are hiring a magician, keep in mind anyone can make up references (yep, even us). So make sure you at least see a demo video or have heard of the magician by word of mouth.
  • Always, always, ALWAYS.... Bring on a magician before people get too drunk! Magic is a wonderful way of getting people warmed up and laughing etc, but it is appreciated best by your guests in the earlier parts of the event. Trust us, magic or any form of mentalism or hypnosis does NOT mix with drink. Bring on a magician too late and you have just wasted your money as people are already very warmed up at that stage and just want to get on with the party which is completely understandable.
  • Feel free to ring your magician BEFORE your event so that you and your magician are clear on what you hope to achieve with your event. For example, as mentioned above Finbarr does two types of shows. If you ring him and discuss it with him, you both can see which would suit you better and why. It may be your first time hiring a magician for your wedding, but by talking it over with your magician (who will hopefully have done similar events many times) you could discover things you had never thought about such as some of the tips you've just read!
  • Always try to hire a magician directly, cut out the middle man and you could save yourself up to €300 or more, plus by doing this you get to carry out some of the tips above instead of hoping the agent picks the right entertainer for you.
